Self-harm is a coping skill that people use to cope with inner pain and emotional stress. Self-harm is a behaviour which includes those actions, which result in an injury of some sort to the person by herself or himself. Other words commonly used to describe these actions are self-injury, self-inflicted injury, self-destructive behaviour and self-defeating behaviour.
