Coverdale Counselling offers support to individuals & groups as well as professionals in caring fields as they work through the occupational hazards of compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and burnout. Coverdale Counselling is a teaching practice hosting 1-2 graduate student interns completing their clinical residencies with Kerri each semester.
Coverdale Counselling offers in-person and online counselling for individuals and groups as well as customized professional development programs and psychoeducational workshops.
In addition to managing online sessions, CCC added “Nature Therapy” to the offerings already provided and afforded individuals the option of attending therapy sessions at the farm in Dawson Settlement where they could opt for “Walk & Talk” sessions through the 280 acres of woodland trails (where some clients ask for instruction in foraging and plant/tree identification), more traditional “talk therapy” but in the outdoor office of either the apple orchard or around the fire pit, or Equine Assisted Therapy in the paddock with their equine partners.
Special Services During Pandemics (e.g. COVID/Corona), Disasters and Related Emergencies
In March 2020, recognizing that support would be needed during lockdown, CCC began a series of Facebook live events aimed at supporting community in navigating the challenges, fears, and unknowns of COVID-19. Over the next 24 months, more than 250 episodes of “Coffee, Conversation, and Compassion” would be broadcast – reaching audiences not just in Albert County but around the country and globally. Topics ranged from friendly check-ins and chats to deeper, more intense conversations around talking to kids about traumatic events, pandemic fatigue, systemic racism, social justice, and many more.
Additional offerings of Coverdale Counselling & Consulting (CCC) have included workshops for the parents and caregivers of youth experiencing anxiety and depression; programs for caregiver burnout; group therapy for anger management, postpartum depression, complicated grief, and living with mental illness; and informational programs for caregivers of those living with mental illnesses.
Coverdale Counselling’s commitment to community was further amplified in 2021, with the implementation of “Free Clinic Thursdays” as a way to reach others in the community who may not have access to mental health services. To date, more than 100 individuals have received free counselling services through this program.
