Event Description

Free screening of "Seeing the Unseen," an 82 minute Icelandic film about women on the autism spectrum (ASD), followed by panel discussion.

Women and girls often go undiagnosed with ASD and struggle for years with their non-visible disabilities with little or no supports. The film follows several adult women who receive assessments after facing a lifetime of stigma and shame related to their neurological differences, but who now find understanding with women who have similar experiences. The film is in Icelandic with English subtitles. It touches on sexual violence and disability, and features beautiful Icelandic music and scenery. We are hoping to attract a broad audience to the screening including community members, students, self-advocates, parents and caregivers, academics, and service professionals.
