Event Description

In this workshop, Dr. Burns will describe and demonstrate new techniques for the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse. The treatment methods will focus primarily on the motivational factors that cause and maintain the addictive behavior, but will also illustrate treatment methods for the underlying emotional problems that can sometimes reinforce addictions and trigger relapses. This will be a practical workshop with large numbers of treatment tools you can use in your clinical work right away. Participants will have numerous opportunities to practice techniques designed to boost your effectiveness in forming a warm therapeutic alliance, even with unmotivated and hostile teens and adults, and boosting motivation, using powerful tools such as the Urges to Use Scale, the Brief Mood Survey, the Five Secrets of Effective Communication, Paradoxical Agenda Setting Techniques, the Decision-Making Form, the Habit / Addiction Log, the Devil’s Advocate Technique, the Experimental Technique, and more. One highlight of the workshop will be an optional live demonstration on the evening of Day 1. The focus will be on Healing Yourself. Although the focus will be on the treatment of teens and adults with addictions, audience members will be invited to work on their own habits and addictions, including the psychological addictions such as overeating, compulsive shopping, sexual addictions and romantic addictions, and internet addictions as a way of bringing the treatment techniques to life. - See more at: http://www.jackhirose.com/workshop/treating-adults-and-teens-110614/#sthash.HTyiUYID.dpuf
