Gender identity refers to the basic sense of self as being either male or female. Gender dysphoria is when someone is unhappy about their gender. Gender identity disorder is a condition where a person has been assigned one gender (on the basis of their sex), but perceives himself or herself as belonging to another gender.

Special Services During Pandemics (e.g. COVID/Corona), Disasters and Related Emergencies
During COVID, mental health services at CHEO have changed. Outpatient services are still being offered VIRTUALLY, i.e. via telephone, or via videoconferencing (i.e. Ontario Telemedicine Network or Zoom). Inpatient services are significantly more restricted and thus only available for the most severe psychiatric emergencies.
