Girls Talk
Program/Service of : Youth Net (YN)
In March 2004, YN/RA piloted an innovative model developed by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). This activity-based group is geared to young women between the ages of 14-16. This program was derived from a project called VALIDITY (Vibrant Action Looking Into Depression in Today’s Young Women).

The Girls Talk model resulted from the VALIDITY Youth Action Team discussions. The group includes 7-10 sessions lasting 1.5 hours. The sessions are structured and include weekly lesson plans. Some of the topics covered include: stress, relationships, self-esteem, media and body image. A variety of activities, discussions and guest presenters are arranged throughout the group, thus creating a diverse and dynamic model in which to engage the participants. Clinical back-up is also available during these groups.
