Event Description

Animals are non-judgmental and accepting and there is a natural tendency when interacting with them for outward focus, inner calm, multi-sensory learning and social bonding. Previous positive experiences with pets may lead practitioners and therapists to be curious about the clinical applications of using animals in therapy. This training will provide an overview of animal-assisted activities, interventions, counselling and therapies for service providers and organizations.

Participants will explore different types of interventions involving animals and learn practical tools and strategies for incorporating this work into established programs. The session is conducted by certified Animal Assisted Intervention (AAI) practitioner and social worker.

This course is recommended for practitioners who support children, youth and adults with mental health, behavioural challenges, addictions and Autism Spectrum Disorders. AAI is appropriate for a wide variety of service settings including: home, community, healthcare, residential care and schools.
