Event Description

Grounded in the real world of clinical practice, this workshop will demonstrate the application of empirically-validated mindfulness principles and techniques to the treatment of traumatized older
adolescents and adults. It will also integrate aspects of Buddhist psychology that inform the existential aspects of recovery from extremely adverse events.

Learning Objectives:
• Describe the pain paradox as it relates to avoidance and symptom chronicity.
• Define metacognitive awareness and its benefits.
• Describe “urge surfing” and “trigger work” as it relates to affect regulation training.
• Outline the major principles of Briere’s hybrid model of mindfulness-based trauma therapy.
